Raghunath Ram Foundation

Dr Raghunath Ram Agarwal was born August 6th, 1934, in Khurda, Odisha, India. He received his education at Ravenshaw College, Cuttack, and at Allahabad University. He joined the Odisha education service in 1961 as lecturer in political science. Later, in 1964, he became lecturer in the postgraduate department of political science, Utkal University.

In 1966 Dr Ram joined the Indian school of International Studies, New Delhi, as a research scholar. He specialized in soviet studies and was awarded his PhD degree by the Jawaharlal Nehru University in 1973. In 1975 he got a senior fellowship of the Indian council of Social Science Research for his research project on “Superpowers and the Indo-Pakistani Subcontinent: 1947-71”. Later for his work he received his Doctor of Literature (D.Litt.) from Patna University in 1995. He worked as the Director of the National Institute of Social Work and Social Sciences, Bhubaneshwar and then as a Professor of International Politics at Mumbai University until 2000. He passed away in Pennsylvania on September 7th, 2001, surrounded by his family.

Dr Ram was very passionate about education and wanted all deserving children to get one. He set aside money every month from his paycheck to support his underprivileged and economically disadvantaged students. This foundation honors his vision and carries forward his legacy.
